I was just introduced to Google maps street level and I must say it's unbelievable yet insane. They have a 360 degree image of everywhere which I guess makes it very convenient especially when you're like me where I need to look up map details and directions before heading to someplace new. I can now see the place online and know exactly what building, house, or venue I'm looking for.
However I feel a little violated that anyone has access to what my house looks like. I now have an inkling of what celebrities must feel like having paparazzi take pictures of them and their homes and displaying them online, in magazines, or other media forms.
What's next? Live street level views?!
Here's an image of one of the busiest intersections of downtown T.O.
When we first brought Belle home, she'd go nuts and try to attack my hand before I even put her food bowl down. Since then I've slowly taught her how to stay while I go around the corner where she can't see me, wait 20 seconds and come back and give her a treat. Then I made her sit and placed a piece of her food slightly away from her and made her stay until I say "OK" in a really happy, excited voice.
Here she is staying while she's down which is what Steve taught her.
I had lunch at my uncle's house today to celebrate my Godson's 9th birthday. He showed me what was left of his vegetable garden since summer is almost over and the cold weather is blowing in.
This year he had a good crop of cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, head and romaine lettuce, mini red and green peppers, cabbage, zuchinni, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, jalapenos, chili peppers, and squash.
Aside from vegetables, he also grew a variety of herbs and beautiful red and white roses that would be perfect for wedding bouquets.
In the middle of his garden he has a huge black compost bin. He continously adds fresh food scraps to the bin throughout the year. Then as summer approaches and he begins to cultivate his garden, he empties the compost and scatters the rich soil before planting the seeds.
Last month, to his great surprise, a watermelon along with numerous honeydews started coming up. Unfortunately they need a few more weeks to grow to full size but because the weather is getting cold, they may not have that chance.
Just before we left we managed to score the biggest honeydew that grew =)
Every once in awhile (mainly before I go on vacation) I book an appointment with my wax lady. Driving to her house, I am always filled with dread and anticipation and cannot wait to get it over with. My sister normally comes with me so we can share in the pain together and I always chicken out and let her go first. I later regret that decision because I can hear the long rips of the wax strips. Yes, it's that loud!
Inside, the room is very clean and there's a bed to lie down on while being waxed away. BUT the room is not that big and the bed is facing a huge transparent window that is always kept open with the blinds pulled all the way up. What's on the other side of the window? The neighbour's house!!
The side of the neighbour's house doesn't have any windows but today I noticed that if I moved my head slightly to the left I was able to see the neighbour's entire backyard. Does that mean they can see me??
So far I've never seen any of her neighbours outside but what if one day they're out having a BBQ and I'm inside getting waxed (think Jen Aniston in The Breakup). Or someone nonchalantly walks by the side of the house? Has the wax lady gone outside and tested the open window to see if anyone can see in?
I can certainly tell her to pull down the blinds but it's her work environment and I personally hate when any of my co-workers pull down the blinds for the window in front of my desk.
The things we do and put up with for beauty.
We've had Belle for exactly three weeks now and things are going well. She's such a sweetheart and I find myself racing home so I can pick her up, hold her like a baby above my head and kiss her soft warm belly. Then I hug her for a good 5 minutes before I train her on basic commands for another half an hour and then feed her. She's doing awesome with the commands so far. It took her two days to learn SIT, and every day after that I've taught her something new: come, stay (this was a tough one), down, up, stand, and paw. My favourite by far is PAW b/c her paw is still so tiny and it's so darn cute when she looks down at my hand and puts her paw in it.
Saturday was a huge day in Belle's little life. Given she sleeps ALLL day (no joke b/c I was working from home last week and witnessed it), we woke up early to take her to the vet for her second booster shot. She was also weighed again and we learned she gained another pound, so she's now 7.2lbs. I noticed that Belle has a lot of pent-up energy and will run up and down the kitchen floor so I sensed that she may be ready to go out for walks. The only problem is she's not fully vaccinated and won't be for another three weeks. I asked the vet anyway if we could take her out and was happy when she said yes but stick to sidewalks only where you can make sure she doesn't lick anything suspicious.
So we went home, put on her harness and let her walk from our doorway to the elevator. She was hesitant to walk by herself at first and would plop her bum on the floor and just sit there. Eventually she got the hang of it and I was so proud that my little baby accomplished her first big milestone: her very first walk. I can't wait until she's completely vaccinated and we can take her to a leash-free park.
One of my best friends is getting married next year to her boyfriend of 7 years. She was one of my bridesmaids at my wedding and now she's asked me to be hers. We've been friends since we were 11 but only developed a real friendship when we were 14 and started high school. Since then we've had more ups than downs and we've pretty much been inseparable.
During high school she used to work for a video store chain and with free movie rentals as a perk, she became a huge movie buff. It's so fitting that she chose an old, beautiful movie theatre as the venue for her wedding reception, and is planning a whole movie theme for her wedding.
I came up with the idea to do a movie scene slate money box. She loved the idea but was stumped as to how to make one.
Next weekend is her engagement party and I thought we could surprise her by making the money box. So yesterday my sister, her hubby, Steve and I had an arts and crafts day. The money box turned out exactly how I had envisioned it. I can't wait to show my friend.
When I moved out of my parents' house and into my condo over a year ago, I only brought over my clothes but everything else in my room remained intact so if anyone went inside my room today, they'd think I still lived there. Since then I hung up all my clothes in my new closet but never really took the time to organize.
This weekend I decided it was time to tackle the closet. Cleaning the closet is not always fun but it is when you find clothes you forgot about and never wore before! I've also been meaning to do something creative with my tank tops, camis, and halters so that everything is visible. I tried a friend's suggestion of rolling them up and storing in a drawer. I love how they look in the drawer but we'll see how that turns out.
I also finally unpacked a subset of jewellery I had stuffed into a plastic bag at the bottom of my closet. My dresser came with these 2 top drawers lined in velvet which was the perfect place to lay everything. I'll have to figure out what to do with the rest of my jewellery that was left at my parents' house.
After 3+ hours of folding, hanging, and rolling, I was quite pleased with the final organized result. Even Steve who is the master of organization was impressed.
Steve and I have been wanting to get a dog for awhile now but couldn't agree on a breed. I wanted a tiny Yorkshire Terrier while he wanted an enormous boxer which would take up a lot of room in our condo. One day I was watching an episode of Martha Stewart and she was doing a segment on dogs. She had her small cream-coloured French Bulldog sitting on a table for the entire segment and it didn't move once. I immediately fell in love b/c he was so darn cute.
I mentioned the breed to Steve and he was already a fan b/c although Frenchies are quite small for a bulldog, they're still pretty tough-looking on the exterior. It was the perfect compromise dog! A couple weeks ago I found a posting online from a breeder who had a litter of puppies that were ready to be sold. She had a few photos of her puppies in the ad which melted my heart so Steve called and arranged for a visit.
As soon as we arrived at the breeder's house, we were greeted by two Frenchies at the door. We followed the breeder upstairs and there were two of the most adorable French Bulldog puppies I had ever seen. Both were cream-coloured females from the same litter but their personalities were completely different. The bigger pup was hyper and aggressive while the smaller one was calm, sweet, and gentle. The smaller one came to sit on my lap and she looked up at me with her huge eyes and I knew I had to have her. She seemed to like me too b/c she stayed on my lap for 20 minutes and fell asleep.
We put down a deposit and brought her home last Sunday and she's been such a joy ever since. We took her to the vet last night and everyone went nuts over her and wanted to hold her. Everyday she does something so adorable that I've now become one of those pet owners who obsess over taking photos/videos of every cute pet moment.
Here are a couple I took over the last four days:
